If you are a parent, you want what’s best for your children. That means trying to feed them healthy foods, encouraging them to do well in school, and keeping their teeth looking their best.

If you are a parent, you want what’s best for your children. That means trying to feed them healthy foods, encouraging them to do well in school, and keeping their teeth looking their best.

You also remember your own teenage years. More than likely, you or people you know had to wear some kind of orthodontic device. Sadly, other kids aren’t always the most considerate about that.

What if we told you there is a way to help your kids (and you, too) have a straighter smile? And what if we told you that it was much less visible than traditional braces?

You have that option with Invisalign at First Dental Associates in Reading, MA.

How does Invisalign work?

To put it simply, Invisalign is a different way to straighten your teeth or your child’s teeth.

Crooked teeth affect millions of people across the United States. And for many of those people, their crooked teeth are a source of embarrassment. We want you to smile when you are happy, rather than trying to hide your joy because you feel ashamed of your teeth.

With Invisalign, we create a series of aligners made of clear plastic. Every couple weeks, you or your teen will get new aligners. While you are using the aligners, they will gently reposition your teeth. We do ask that you visit us every six weeks so we can make sure everything is progressing as intended.

In most cases, Invisalign can get you a straighter smile – and maybe even a little more confidence — in 9 to 15 months.

If you need your teeth straightened faster, say for a big event, we also offer Invisalign Express 10. This system gets your teeth straighter with 10 aligners or less.

Who are good candidates for Invisalign?

Lots of people are.

Do you want to fix an overbite or underbite? Do you have a crossbite (when one or more of your upper teeth bite inside your lower teeth)?

Would you like to change the spacing between your teeth, such as a gap? Would you like your teeth to be spaced more evenly?

Or would you just like to have straighter teeth?

Invisalign can help resolve all these issues.

Advantages over braces

The clear Invisalign trays offer some big advantages over traditional braces.

1. They are hardly noticeable even when they are being worn. Braces certainly are a proven method of straightening teeth, but you can’t hide that you have them.

2. Invisalign aligners make it easier to keep your mouth clean. Oral hygiene is important all the time.

With braces, that can be trickier than usual. You’ll need to follow specific steps to keep your teeth clean. You may even have to buy special tools to keep your braces clean, too.

With Invisalign trays, you remove the trays when it’s time to brush and floss, which means you brush and floss like you normally would. As a reminder, you should brush twice a day and floss once a day.

3. You can eat the foods you like. Since braces are fixed to your teeth, you have to be careful about eating certain foods. Popcorn, nuts, crunchy cookies, crackers, and many types of candy are just of the few things you will need to avoid with braces.

With Invisalign, you remove the trays while you eat, which means you enjoy all your favorite foods.

4. Plastic aligners are more comfortable than metal wires. Sometimes the wires on braces can come loose and poke your cheeks or gums. That’s not fun.

That’s not a problem when you are wearing a smooth, plastic tray.
