Better Technology For Better Dental Care
Technology is one way we measure our progress in society. It has made us more efficient. It has allowed us to do things that were previously impossible. And it has certainly made general dentistry better.

Technology is one way we measure our progress in society. It has made us more efficient. It has allowed us to do things that were previously impossible.

And it has certainly made general dentistry better.

At least, it can if you visit a dentist who understands how to use that technology for the benefit of patients. That’s exactly what you will find at First Dental Associates.

Today, we will be discussing some of the state-of-the-art technology that we use at our dentist office in Reading, MA.

If you would like to see how it’s used in person, all you have to do is make an appointment. You can contact us online, or you can call us at [phone].

★ Digital X-Rays

When Dr. Sadeghi took over First Dental Associates, no computers were being used in the practice. Today, patients can enjoy Wi-Fi while waiting for their appointments, and we are an all-digital office.

That includes our digital x-ray machine.

Dentists have been using x-rays to help their patients for more than a century. X-rays can help us identify problems that we could not see otherwise. They can reveal cavities, expose impacted wisdom teeth, and help identify changes in the alignment of teeth over time.

So why should you care if we have a digital x-ray machine?

We have a couple reasons. First, digital x-ray machines use just a fraction of the radiation of older film x-ray machines. That makes it safer for you and for our staff.

Second, digital x-ray machines produce digital images. This allows us to see those images faster. When those images are sent to our computers, we can share them with you.

We have seen that seeing the x-rays helps patients understand what is happening in their mouths. This is beneficial when you are trying to make important decisions about your family’s oral health.

Call our dentist office in Reading, MA, at 781-202-5612 if you have questions about how we use digital x-rays to help patients like you.

★ VELscope

Cancer is one of those things that no one likes to think about. And oral cancer can seem particularly scary.

When you come to First Dental Associates for a visit, you receive a dental cleaning and an examination. The exam is just as important as the cleaning.

We are checking for tooth decay. We are checking for gum disease. We are checking for alignment issues with your teeth.

And we are looking for signs of oral cancer. The VELscope helps us to that more effectively.

Our hope is that we never see anything that we never see those symptoms. If we just used our eyes, we might not see anything, but that’s only because of the limits of the human eye.

The VELscope emits a harmless blue light into your mouth. This allows it to measure the fluorescence of the soft tissues in your mouth. This can help identify both cancerous and pre-cancerous tissues in the early stages.

And that is important. According to research, 83 percent of people diagnosed with oral cancer survive beyond five years. That survival rate drops if it has spread to the lymph nodes (63 percent) and to more distant parts of the body (38 percent).

Early detection goes a long way in the fight against oral cancer. We hope none of our patients have this condition, but if anyone does, we want to find it as soon as possible.

★ Intraoral cameras

This is another way we are improving how we diagnose issues and how we communicate with our patients.

Using an intraoral camera, we are able to take a much closer look at your mouth. By getting closer and viewing your teeth and soft tissues from various angles, we have another way of finding problems early.

We can also share what we are seeing with you. As with the digital x-rays, this is another tool we can use to show you what’s happening. That can give you a better idea what you should do to maintain or improve your oral health.
