Q: What is Invisalign?

A: Invisalign is a revolutionary option for correcting misaligned teeth. More specifically, it is a series of clear trays. These trays are custom made to move your teeth into their correct position over time. Almost invisible, the trays can be taken out for special occasions, for eating meals and for tooth brushing but must be in place for at least 22 hours per day to properly do their job.

Q: How long must I wear Invisalign?

A: Wearing time can vary depending on the degree of adjustment your teeth require. Invisalign patients sometimes complete the process in as little as six months, while others make take up to two years. Either way, you can be sure the correction mechanism will be much less obvious than traditional braces when you select Invisalign.

Gently, Quickly And Privately Straightening Your Smile

Invisalign is a teeth straightening procedure that uses a series of clear aligners to gently and gradually move your teeth into their proper alignment.

Here’s how it works:

  • Your Invisalign aligners fit directly over your natural teeth, where they will gently nudge your crooked teeth into alignment.
  • Every couple of weeks, you will put in a new aligner that will continue to move your teeth. Gradually, you will be getting closer and closer to your straight smile.
  • Every six weeks, you will check in at First Dental Associates to make sure the process is progressing properly. Otherwise, the bulk of the treatment takes place at home.

Typically, an Invisalign treatment takes nine to 15 months, using anywhere from 18-30 aligners, but this depends entirely on the individual case.

In addition to traditional Invisalign, we also offer Invisalign Express 10. Express 10 is designed to get your teeth into proper alignment in just three to six months using only 10 aligners or less.

Enjoying Health Benefits Thanks To Orthodontics

In addition to gaining a grin you can always be proud of, your straighter smile will also prove to be an excellent investment for your oral health in the long run. Your straighter smile can help ensure:

  • Reduced risk of periodontal disease, or gum disease, since food is less likely to become trapped in between teeth and cause buildup of bacteria and plaque
  • Increased comfort due to less stress on your jaw, which can be caused by misaligned teeth
  • Less trauma to your teeth due to misalignment, which can cause them to become worn and lead to costly restorative procedures

Q: Is there a route to straight teeth that's faster than Invisalign?

A: For those wanting an almost instantaneously improved smile, porcelain veneers are the clear option. Porcelain veneers are completely different from braces or Invisalign in that they don’t correct your existing teeth, but are instead thin shells of ceramic material placed over your existing teeth.

Q: Why should I bother to undergo the tooth-straightening process?

A: Not only do straight teeth boost confidence in big way, but many patients report a dramatic leap in self-esteem. Crooked teeth are also more difficult to clean and are more subject to decay. They make chewing much harder work, and this can ultimately lead to a painful condition called TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder). To avoid these problems it is best to address this challenge while also attaining a more attractive smile.
